NDA: It is held by the United Public Service Commission and is responsible for recruiting students to the National Defence Academy where they are trained for their respective roles in the Army, Navy or Air Force.

CDS: It is also organized by the UPSC and stands for Combined Defence Services. It is held for hiring recruits for courses conducted by the Air Force Academy and Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Indian Military Academy

AFCAT: AFCAT stands for Air Force common admission test and is for candidates to join the Airforce. It has provisions for entry as Recruitment in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission, Short Service Commission (SSC) in Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches and for NCC Special Entry/ Meteorology Entry

Available vacancies

NDA: National Defence Academy has a vacancy of 370 seats. This includes 208 for the army, 42 for the Navy and 120 for the air force. And with the naval scheme, 48 more cadets are admitted hence totaling to 418 entries.

CDS: CDS has a total vacancy of 418 seats.

Indian Navy: Vacancies depend on the exams the candidate applies for.

CAPF ACs: The reserve list available for CAPF ACs are 50. This includes 22 general, 24 OBC and 4 SC candidates. There are a total of 323 seats.

AFCAT:  For AFCAT the vacancies are as follows: Flying – 60, Ground Duty (Technical) – PC – 40 SCC – 26 Posts, Ground Duty (Technical) – PC – 23, SCC – 16 Posts, Ground Duty (non-Technical) – PC – 24, SSC – 16 Posts, Ground Duty (non-Technical) – PC – 14, SSC – 10 Post.

Syllabus

NDA: The exam for NDA consists of Mathematics which is of two and a half hours with 300 marks. Then it consists of a General Ability test for two and a half hours with 600 marks questions. 

CDS: The questions asked are from General Knowledge and English along with Additional subjects like mathematics.

Indian Navy: The syllabus for the Navy entrance exams are related to the respective exams they refer to under this heading, like the JEE or the NDA exams.

Exam Pattern

NDA: All the questions are objective type and are calculated within the maximum marks of 900.

CDS: The exam pattern consists of English for 2 Hours 100 mark, General – Knowledge 2 Hours 100 marks and Elementary Mathematics for 2 Hours & Maximum Marks 100

Territorial Army: The screening process is carried on at the Army Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence.

Indian Navy: The exam pattern followed is according to the test the student applies for. Some of the options are from the Indian Navy Entrance exam or the NDA.

AFCAT: Stage-I test is a screening test, and only those who qualify would be able to proceed further. Stage 2 consists of Psychological test and Group Tests followed by Interview.
